James E. Hanley

James E. Hanley is a Senior Policy Analyst at the non-partisan Empire Center for Public Policy, where he focuses on energy and environmental policy. Hanley earned a B.A. in Political Science with a minor in Economics from California State University, Bakersfield, and both an M.A. and Ph.D. in political science from the University of Oregon. Hanley additionally holds a Professional Certificate in Energy Innovation and Emerging Technologies, and a Certificate in Environmental Resource Management. In his two decades of teaching experience Hanley has taught American Government, Political Economy, Research Methods, Congress and Presidents, Nuclear Weapons and Power, Environmental Politics, and much more. Hanley has served as Associate Professor of Political Science, Chair of the Political Science Department, and Faculty President at Adrian College, as well as several assistant professor and adjunct professor roles at Des Moines Area Community College, the University of Illinois, Springfield, Indiana University, Bloomington, and the University of Oregon. Hanley's research has been published extensively in a variety of academic journals such as the American Political Science Review, Perspectives on Politics, Politics and the Life Sciences, and many more. Hanley has also written for the American Institute of Economic Research(AIER), where he also served as an E. C. Harwood Visiting Fellow, Liberty Fund, and the Foundation for Economic Education. Hanley conducted a post-doctoral fellowship under 2009 Economics Nobel Prize winner Elinor Ostrom, and ha conducted a fellowship at the Institute for Social Policy and Understanding.
