Andrew Smith

New Palestine High School and Indy Fuel Hockey Club

Andrew Smith is an announcer, educator, coach, journalist, and communications professional. He works as an an economics instructor at New Palestine High School in Indiana and an adjunct instructor for Vincennes University. He is a former journalist who worked at two community newspapers in Indiana before transitioning to the classroom. Smith has a passion for teaching economics, whether in the classroom or through the written word, and has been published at Adam Smith Works, the Reading Room and the op-ed pages of multiple newspapers. Smith received his bachelor's degree in Journalism from Indiana University Bloomington and earned a master’s degree in education from Indiana Wesleyan University. He is also currently pursuing a master’s degree in economics. When not in the classroom or writing about economics, Smith is also a freelance sports broadcaster and is the past president of the Indiana Sportswriters & Sportscasters Association, where he was the longest tenured president in the organization's history. Smith also works with the Indy Fuel, a hockey club competing in the East Coast Hockey League. Smith was the team's first public address announcer, and has been the Fuel's play-by-play broadcaster for over eight years. In addition to having announcing roles, he has served as in-house beat writer, historian, voice-over artist and host of the team's podcast. Smith is currently attempting to earn his M.S. in Economics at Southern New Hampshire University, and is expecting to graduate in 2024.
