Maria Pia Paganelli

Dr. Maria Pia Paganelli is a professor of economics at Trinity University in San Antonio where she teaches classes in the principles of economics, the economics of law, Smithian economics, a study abroad course on the history of Iceland, and more. Dr. Pia Paganelli earned both an M.A and a B.A in Political Sciences from Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in Economics from George Mason University. Dr. Paganelli has been regularly published in History of Political Economy, The Cambridge Journal of Economics, The Journal of the History of Economic Thought, and History of Economic Ideas, and much more. Dr. Paganelli also wrote the Routledge Guidebook of Smith's Wealth of Nations (2020), and co-edited the books Adam Smith and Rousseau: Ethics, Politics, and Economics(2018), and the Oxford Handbook on Adam Smith(2013). In 2009, The European Society for the History of Economic Thought awarded Dr. Paganelli's 2008 academic paper "The Adam Smith Problem in Reverse: Self-Interest in Adam Smith's Wealth of Nations, and Theory of Moral Sentiments" the prize of Best Article of Year. Dr. Paganelli was the book review editor for the Journal of the History of Economic Thought, the vice-president of the History of Economics Society, and is the current president of the International Adam Smith Society and the History of Economics Society.
